The Police Property and Evidence Technician plays a vital role in supporting law enforcement operations by managing the secure receipt, storage, release, and disposal of personal and non-personal property impounded in accordance with City, State, and Federal regulations.

Anticipated starting salary may be up to the mid-point, $28.16 hourly / $58,572.80 annually. The pay rate has recently increased due to approved city budget changes; refer to the salary section above for current pay.

Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) equivalent.
  • Two years of experience in property/evidence work, police work, warehousing, or related field.
  • Must be 21 years of age at the time of application.
Licensing, Certifications and Other Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid, unrestricted driver's license with no major citations within the past 39 months prior to the start date. The Arizona Department of Motor Vehicles requires that out-of-state driver's licenses must be surrendered within 10 days of relocating to the State of Arizona.
  • Must complete a valid Forklift Operator Training Program within six months of hire or promotion.
  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.
Responsibilities
  • Receives impounded properties and evidence from Police Officers; releases property and evidence to designated personnel following prescribed procedures.
  • Performs physical inventories of cash, weapons, jewelry, drugs, and other types of property and evidence.
  • Collects, produces, and maintains written documents and computer records on the disposition of evidence and other impounded property.
  • Sorts, separates, and files impounded property and evidence.
  • Testifies on the disposition of evidence when necessary.
  • Transports property and evidence from off-site location to the central warehousing facility and transports evidence to crime laboratories for analysis.
  • Operates a forklift, stock picker, or other equipment to move impounded property.
Physical Demands
  • Must have 20/20 corrected vision.
  • Most work is performed in a warehouse or City office environment.
  • Use protective equipment when handling property.
  • Perform manual work that requires bending, stooping, and moving heavy objects (100 pounds or more) both short and long distances; climb ladders and steps to reach objects; lift arms above shoulder level.
  • Lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds above the head with assistance.
  • Exposure to dust, noise, inclement weather, temperature extremes, contaminated blood and property, and unpleasant odors.
  • Work with evidence contaminated with body fluids, chemicals, pesticides, paints, insecticides, flammables, explosives, and other hazardous materials using normal protective equipment.
  • Prepare boxed items; move, lift, store, and retrieve evidence and property.
  • Handle firearms and other dangerous weapons.
  • Travel to/from various locations.
