POSITION SUMMARY  This position is responsible for providing the organization's response to audit requests for patient medical records. These requests can come from multiple external payors/auditors including the RAC (Recovery Audit Contractor) program, MACs (Medicare Administrative Contractors), CDACs (CMS Clinical Data Abstraction Center, etc. This position also coordinates the timely processing of requests for PHI for all hospital, BMG, and BUCS facilities across the system.

Ensures complete medical records are compiled and distributed on a time sensitive basis to avoid denials. May act in a leadership role and is a liaison between management and internal/external customers in regard to regulatory requests. Delivers high quality customer service to internal/external customers and monitors daily workflow.
CORE FUNCTIONS  
1. Tracks and monitors all responses to internal customers i.e. Risk Management, Denials Management, and external payors/auditors for patient medical record requests for the company. Acts as a liaison between facilities and the internal/external requestor to ensure all medical records is complete and is received by the internal/external requestor in a timely manner and within established due dates to prevent denials.
2. Assist with the orientation, training, and re-education of ROI staff. Liaison between management and ROI staff for the purpose of coordinating staff schedules. Promotes communication, effective point of service decision making and problem solving while interacting with internal/external customers to ensure positive resolutions and customer satisfaction.
3. Compiles department statistics, generates reports, and facilitates special projects as required including assisting in the development of targets and action plans to achieve department goals. All ROI staff must meet the minimum productivity standards.
4. May process requests for individual patient information via phone, mail, subpoena, fax, complex high volume releases for hospital and BMG, internal compliance audits, internal peer review, CMS RAC audits, coding denial audits, CDAC audits and/or other mediums. Ability to pay close attention to detail and works independently in order to fulfill requests. May serve as a backup to other staff members to ensure the ROI department operations are efficiently and effectively maintained.

Follows Banner Health policies, procedures and fees in releasing information according to federal, state, and regulatory guidelines across multiple states. Prepares certified copies of records for patient or requester as required for external reviewers and legal proceedings.
5. Works independently under limited supervision. Makes independent judgments based on specialized release of information knowledge. Holds system-wide responsibility for managing the company responses to external requests for patient medical records from payors/auditors. Holds a system wide scope of hospital, clinic, and urgent care facility releases. . Pays close attention to detail when processing requests. Must follow Banner Health policies, procedures and guidelines in releasing information according to federal, state, and regulatory guidelines across multiple states.
