Senior Systems Engineer

Responsibilities

Kforce has a client that is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer in Mesa, AZ. This is a full‑time role that requires hybrid work and can be based in Chicago, New York, Indianapolis, or Phoenix. The Senior Systems Engineer plays a critical role in delivering and supporting modern infrastructure solutions across on‑premises, private cloud, and public cloud environments.

The position partners closely with architecture, engineering, and IT operations teams to design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure systems that enable key business initiatives.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the deployment and support of hybrid cloud environments, primarily leveraging Microsoft Azure, while contributing to broader cloud ecosystems.
• Managing and optimizing hyper‑converged platforms such as Cisco UCS, VMware, and VxRail to ensure high performance, availability, and reliability.
• Designing and implementing system monitoring frameworks and establishing high‑availability and disaster‑recovery strategies.
• Developing and maintaining automation solutions with Power Shell, DSC, and other scripting frameworks.
• Interpreting complex architectures, recommending improvements, and delivering secure cloud‑based solutions aligned with best practices.
• Supporting incident management efforts, coordinating with internal teams and external vendors, and participating in a follow‑the‑sun support model with on‑call responsibilities.
• Providing task breakdowns and effort estimates for complex initiatives and delivering high‑quality support to stakeholders across the organization.

• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience), along with relevant cloud or data‑center certifications.
• Six or more years of hands‑on experience in enterprise infrastructure environments, including on‑premises data centers, cloud platforms, storage systems, and networking.
• Strong foundation in Windows Server administration and Linux systems, with demonstrated expertise in designing and supporting hybrid cloud architectures.
• Deep experience with virtualization and hyper‑converged infrastructure, including VMware technologies such as vSphere, NSX, VxRail, and vRealize Operations.
• Proven ability to manage and optimize multi‑site environments and support high‑availability architectures.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Azure services, including virtual machines, networking, storage accounts, private endpoints, NSGs, and identity services such as Entra .
• Experience with automation and scripting (Power Shell, DSC, or Linux‑based scripting) and exposure to enterprise tooling such as Tanium, Rubrik, Zerto, and storage platforms like Net App or Qumulo.
• Solid understanding of Active Directory, DNS, patching practices, and systems lifecycle management.
• Experience with cloud cost optimization strategies, including resource tagging.
• Familiarity with AWS and infrastructure‑as‑code tools such as Cloud Formation.
• Experience supporting compliant environments (SOX, SOC2, ISO, PCI), participating in structured on‑call rotations, and collaborating across engineering and QA teams to resolve deployment and infrastructure issues.

The pay range displayed here represents the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably anticipate offering at the time of posting. Actual pay may vary based on factors such as education, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract, and business needs.

Benefits include medical, dental, vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), life, disability, and ADD insurance for eligible employees. Paid time off is provided for salaried personnel. Hourly employees receive paid sick leave only when required by law or on a Service Contract Act project.

This role is not eligible for bonuses, incentives, or commissions.
