Research Operations Supervisor
NDS is seeking a professional with strong leadership and organizational skills to fill the Research and Development Operations Supervisor position.
Position Summary:
The Research & Development (R&D) Operations Supervisor will lead the Research Operations organization in executing ingredient and energetic material testing and sub-scale energetic material production in support of factory propellant production and R&D programs. The R&D Operations Supervisor position will report to the Director of Research and work closely with the R&D Propellant Explosives and Pyrotechnics (PEP) Supervisor. The Supervisor will provide leadership to the Research Operations staff of laboratory and propellant technicians that will include setting expectations and holding people accountable.
A qualified candidate must be able to create, manage, support and develop a highly technical staff of experts in energetic materials. This position will report to the NDS Director of Research & Development.

- Manage day-to-day operations of the Department to include test request scheduling and prioritization
- Work with cross functional Program teams to support Production and Research programs
- Be the primary interface with Planning and Production staff regarding production support activities
- Ensure that laboratory technicians are supported with accurate and adequate procedures and are trained to those procedures
- Oversee an organization safety program in concert with HESS and foster a culture of safety
- Provide mentorship to organization staff and foster/support a culture of professional development
- Ensure department is meeting site management objectives
- Own the upkeep of the Research Operations facilities
- Support the development of capital improvement plans
Skills:
- BS/MS in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred
- Minimum 3+ years experience in a lab or technical product manufacturing work environment preferred
- Preferred 2+ years experience leading people in a lab or technical product environment preferred
- Ability to work effectively with the cross-functional NDS Mesa Team
- Ability to create and effectively manage department technical leadership by providing mentorship, team building, and leadership development
- Proven track record of being able to create highly effective teams
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment to ensure departments support site objectives and works well with cross functional site leadership
- Highly organized
