Role SummaryAs a Metrology Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring dimensional accuracy and quality integrity for large composite tooling and aircraft structures. Your expertise in metrology systems, CAD‑based inspection, and tooling repair will directly support production efficiency, structural accuracy, and continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands‑on, high‑impact role where precision truly matters.
Your Day‑to‑Day Impact- Perform hands‑on tooling assembly and maintenance
- Handle large structures, including operating forklifts, scissor lifts, boom lifts, cranes, and hoists
- Install concrete mounting points and accurately locate large or heavy structures within .005″ tolerance
- Repair, infuse, refurbish, and maintain composite molds
- Utilize CAD and 3D inspection software such as PC‑DMIS, Verisurf, Geomagic, Polyworks, Spatial Analyzer, or similar systems
- Conduct metrology operations using laser trackers or similar precision positioning systems
- Set repair priorities for production composite molding
- Train and mentor tooling technicians
- Use precision instruments to perform exacting measurements from complex drawings and specifications
- Ensure quality workmanship and dimensional accuracy
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe tool room environment
- Guide team members in proper safety procedures
- Support documentation for tool charges
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives
- Plan and execute composite mold maintenance
- Report daily updates and issues to the Production Manager
- 5+ years of experience in tooling and metrology measurements, ideally in aerospace or manufacturing
- Strong experience handling large structures and precision alignment
- Proficiency with CAD and/or 3D inspection software packages
- Experience using laser trackers or advanced metrology positioning systems
- Ability to fabricate parts using machine tools and hands‑on techniques
- Strong knowledge of precision measurement instruments and gaging
- Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills
- Strong interpersonal and team collaboration skills
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related software
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
- Experience with large aircraft assembly and inspection
- Metal shop skills including welding, grinding, and machining
- Experience repairing and refurbishing aerospace composite molds
