Material Stock Handler Job Description
The Material Stock Handler accurately receives, inspects, and records all incoming materials while supporting shipping, inventory control, and material handling activities in a manufacturing environment. This role ensures that materials are properly labeled, stored, and documented in the ERP system, while safely operating material handling equipment and maintaining an organized receiving area.
Responsibilities- Unload deliveries and verify incoming shipments against purchase orders, packing slips, and invoices.
- Inspect incoming materials for damage, defects, or discrepancies and document findings.
- Communicate any shortages, damages, or nonconformance to Quality and Purchasing teams.
- Actively enter receiving transactions into the ERP system to ensure accurate inventory records.
- Ensure all materials are properly labeled and barcoded according to company standards.
- Support the put-away of materials into correct storage locations and maintain proper organization.
- File and maintain accurate records of all incoming shipments and related documentation.
- Ensure receiving paperwork is complete, accurate, and properly routed to appropriate departments.
- Communicate with Purchasing, Planning, and Logistics regarding delivery status, delays, or issues.
- Assist in daily cycle counts and reconciliation activities to maintain accurate inventory levels.
- Verify that all system transactions match the physical flow of materials in the facility.
- Support the investigation and resolution of inventory discrepancies in coordination with relevant teams.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures related to material handling and equipment use.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of the receiving dock and staging areas.
- Assist with shipping and receiving of large freight pieces as needed.
- Use RF scanners and inventory control tools to track and document materials moving in and out of the facility.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least 1 year of experience in warehouses, receiving, or material handling in a manufacturing environment.
- Forklift experience and ability to operate material handling equipment safely.
- Ability to use an ERP or WMS system to accurately track and document inventory transactions.
- Ability to inspect incoming shipments and verify contents against documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret packing slips, purchase orders, and invoices.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 30–35 pounds and stand or walk for extended periods.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb portable ladders as required.
- Good manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination for safe material handling.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and using required personal protective equipment.
Skills & Qualifications
- Familiarity with ERP or warehouse management systems is preferred.
- Experience with RF scanners for inventory control.
- Experience coordinating the shipping and receiving of large freight pieces.
- Crane operating experience is a plus.
- Strong communication skills to work effectively with Quality, Purchasing, Planning, and Logistics teams.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
