It is the mission of the Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps to "lead our nations back to cultural and ecological well-being." The Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps has offices in Acoma, Albuquerque, Gallup (Navajo Nation), Zuni, and Hopi. Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps serves local Indigenous communities in the regions we operate.
Grand Canyon's River Operations Program is dedicated to protecting and managing the natural and cultural resources of the Colorado River by providing administrative access. Through education and advocacy, this program aims to support park users and staff in fulfilling the NPS mission on the Colorado River in GRCA.
The GRCA River Operations Program plays a critical role creating a safe, organized, properly maintained operation on and off the Colorado River. A River Operations Assistance Individual Placement would contribute to NPS and public safety, environmental stewardship, and assist with the NPS and GRCA missions that would be carried out through the position description. Said Individual Placement would strengthen the logistical processes, warehouse management needs, and capacity of the program.
Descriptionof Duties
Responsibilities include supporting boat operations, river management, and public engagement initiatives. The Individual Placement will assist with river operations warehouse activities, which encompass vehicle transport, coordination of boat logistics, menu planning, food procurement and packing, and general river operations procedures.
The Individual Placement will support federal land managers by facilitating administrative processes related to river access and the stewardship of natural and cultural resources along 277 miles of the Colorado River within Grand Canyon National Park. Key responsibilities include monitoring campsite and resource impacts in alignment with the Colorado River Management Plan, conducting archaeological site assessments, and participating in Grand Canyon Youth Partners in Science river expeditions in collaboration with U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) staff.
- Boat Operations:
Support boat operations, including preparation, loading/unloading, and assisting with on-water activities. - River Management:
Assist with river management tasks such as monitoring campsite conditions and ensuring compliance with operational protocols. - Public Engagement:
Participate in public engagement initiatives, including interacting with partner organizations and providing educational support to the public during river trips.
- United States citizen, United States national, or a lawful permanent resident alien.
- At least 17 years of age.
- Has received a high school diploma or equivalency certificate; or has not dropped out of elementary or secondary school to enroll as an Ameri Corps participant, and agrees to obtain a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to using the education award.
- Agrees to provide information to establish eligibility and to complete a National Service Criminal History Check.
- Valid Driver's License
- Must be capable of operating a truck with a trailer and proficient with loading and unloading operations.
