Position Summary

Registered Nurse – Progressive Care Unit (PCU) at Banner Desert Medical Center, Mesa, AZ. The PCU is a 37‑bed unit with continuous cardiac monitoring, providing care for patients from the emergency department, post‑surgical teams, ICU downgrades, medical‑surgical units, and observation upgrades. The role requires working 3‑12‑hour shifts (7:00a.m. – 7:30p.m.) with weekend rotation and a $3hour weekend differential. Eligibility for a hire‑on bonus requires 12 months of RN experience and a 1‑year commitment.

Core

Functions

Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; review patient histories, diagnostics, and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physicians.

Formulate and revise a patient‑centered plan of care, including a realistic discharge plan, in collaboration with family and the multidisciplinary team.

Implement the plan of care via direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of allied health personnel, ensuring compliance with policies, standards of care, and regulatory requirements.

Evaluate patient and family responses to care and education; revise the plan of care as needed to meet goals and outcomes.

Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record in a legible, timely manner consistent with policy.

Provide evidence‑based care; participate in research activities, unit or facility leadership, and education or orientation of new staff and patients.

Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, professional organizations, and community outreach to improve patient outcomes.

Supervise staff and workflow when applicable.

Interact with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts to coordinate care and provide spiritual support when required.

Minimum Qualifications

Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (including temporary, interim, or compact licenses).
BLS certification (additional certifications or continuing education may be required).
At least one year of experience in an acute‑care hospital setting, with recent work in the specialty area within the past 12 months.
For registry or travel positions: one year of experience in an acute‑care hospital setting.
For physician‑practice or home‑health roles: one year of RN experience in a physician practice or acute‑care setting.
Valid driver’s license and active auto insurance for home‑health positions.
Required background checks and fingerprint clearance cards specific to the facility and role (Arizona, Colorado, or other as applicable).

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nursing.
Professional certifications relevant to the specialty.
Additional related education or experience.
