Position Summary

Mesa, Arizona Department: PCU-6WShift: Day – 3 × 12‑hour shifts (7:00am – 7:30pm) with weekend rotations. Flat rate $3/hour weekend differential.

This Registered Nurse (RN) position on the Progressive Care Unit (36‑bed telemetry unit) provides care for patients with respiratory, renal, cardiac issues, alcohol/drug withdrawal, and infections. The role includes evaluating patients, developing and implementing individualized plans of care, and supervising and delegating to nursing staff as appropriate.

Core Functions

Assess patient’s physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural and discharge planning needs. Review history, physical, diagnostics and laboratory data; report abnormal results to physician(s) and other caregivers.

Formulate a comprehensive plan of care, including discharge planning, based on assessment data, patient/family goals and medical directives. Revise plans as patient status changes.

Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation and supervision of the health‑care team. Follow physician orders and ensure compliance with policies, standards of care and regulatory requirements.

Evaluate patient and family response to care and education; modify the plan of care to achieve desired outcomes.

Document all assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation in the patient record; maintain legible, timely records reflecting objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient response.

Provide evidence‑based care and may participate in research activities within clinical practice.

Participate in unit or facility leadership, education, and orientation of staff, patients, students, families and visitors. Mentor and precept when appropriate.

Engage in activities that promote excellent patient outcomes, including participation in professional organizations and national quality improvement initiatives.

In some roles, supervise staff and workflow within the department.

Communicate with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, families, external health‑care providers, community resources, agencies and clergy as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Current, valid RN license in the state of practice (or temporary/interim or compact RN licensure).
BLS certification required.
At least 12 months of RN experience in the specialty area; one year of acute‑care experience in the past 12 months.
Experience working in an acute‑care setting, including patient populations served by the PCU.
Ability to operate a personal vehicle and possess a valid driver’s license; auto insurance coverage required.
Arizona fingerprint clearance card and criminal history affidavit signed upon hire;
Colorado fingerprint clearance card required for staff in the Banner McKee Senior Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit.
Compliance with all Banner Health employment requirements, including drug‑free policy.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related field.
Professional RN certification preferred.
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
