Position Summary

As the Registered Nurse Manager of the Perianesthesia department at Banner Gateway Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona, you will bring your leadership experience and passion for health care to our Surgery department. You will lead a team of nurses supporting a 30‑bed Perianesthesia unit that serves nine operating rooms, interventional radiology, and endoscopy, with a focus on oncology, bariatrics, robotics, urology, GYN, orthopedics, and general surgery.

Your goal is to build relationships with leaders and staff to deliver safe, kind, efficient, evidence‑based, and high‑quality clinical care.

Core Functions
  • Oversee the unit’s operations to ensure smooth and efficient patient care management; manage patient assignments to beds and staff; complete daily rounding to ensure quality provision of care.
  • Manage the unit to ensure patient and employee satisfaction, promote safety and retention, and serve as a real‑time resource for problem‑solving on patients, processes, and family issues.
  • Coordinate quality initiatives and process improvements; align and manage metrics.
  • Develop leadership skills among staff—including communication, decision‑making, problem‑solving, critical thinking, and employee engagement; lead career advancement opportunities and serve as a role model.
  • Facilitate unit meetings and shared governance/leadership efforts.
  • Handle selection, orientation, onboarding, and retention; coach staff, conduct performance evaluations, corrective actions, and development opportunities.
  • Assist in developing the operational and capital budget; manage daily resources (staff, supplies, equipment) and ensure optimal productivity.
  • Supervise clinical unit staff to ensure excellent patient care and foster management skills while enabling staff to manage schedules, edit time cards, research budget issues, and order supplies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of nursing and healthcare typically obtained through a bachelor's degree in nursing; BSN required for all individuals entering the role as of 2/1/2016.
  • Current RN license in the state of practice; BLS required.
  • 1–2 years of relevant clinical experience and demonstrated knowledge and skills of the specialty area.
  • Critical thinking, communication, influence, decision‑making, analytical, and flexibility skills; ability to balance clinical skills with supervisory authority.
  • Ability to consider the impact of decisions on the unit and practice skills according to professional standards and quality requirements.
  • New Leader Experience certification within one year.
  • For employees within behavioral health settings serving children, an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card and an Arizona Criminal History Affidavit at time of hire.
