Extraordinary care for children occurs at Banner Thunderbird Medical Center in Pediatric General.

We provide care to a variety of childhood disease processes including Orthopedics, Surgical, Gastrointestinal, Neurological, Endocrinology, Oncology, and general pediatrics.

Responsibilities

The position assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and standards of professional nursing practice utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development.

  • Assess patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs; review patient history and physical with patient/family; complete assessments and reassessments within appropriate timeframe; report abnormal results to the physician(s) and other caregivers.
  • Formulate a plan of care, including the discharge plan, based on assessment data, patient/family, and health team input; set realistic, measurable goals in collaboration with the patient/family; consider the patient’s physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age‑specific, and educational needs.
  • Implement the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of health care team activities; provide care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care, in compliance with policies and regulatory requirements; delegate appropriately and supervise nursing personnel and other staff.
  • Evaluate the patient’s and family’s response to care and teaching; revise the plan of care as needed; assess progress toward goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with the health team.
  • Document assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record; ensure documentation is legible, timely, and in accordance with policy and objective/subjective data.
  • Provide care based on the best evidence available; participate in research activities and unit or facility shared leadership; interact and participate in education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families, and visitors; mentor when appropriate.
  • Contribute to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care; participate in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes; join professional organizations as appropriate.
  • In some roles, supervise staff and workflow of the department.
  • Interact with all levels of staff in a variety of departments, physicians, patients, families, and external contacts such as employees of other health care institutions, community providers, agencies, and clergy to provide spiritual support or clarify information.
