Overview

Night shift RN position in Neonatal Intensive Care unit. Sign‑on bonus available. 1+ year NICU experience required.

Responsibilities

The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, performs diagnostic tests and analyzes results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and assists with patient follow‑up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes or contributes to a care plan, including medication administration, IV line management, therapy delivery, observation, and physician/clinician consultation.

The RN teaches patients and families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explain post‑treatment and home‑care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self‑administration of medication and therapy. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides, delegates when appropriate, and supports clinical knowledge advancement by precepting new hires or students. The RN enhances knowledge of nursing management and patient care, seeks competency completion, and continues to improve patient outcomes.

Functions

Collect and systematically manage health data; prioritize collection based on patient condition; involve the family. Analyze assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop or revise patient care plans that are family‑centered, developmentally and age‑appropriate, and culturally relevant. Identify individualized outcomes and implement interventions; initiate treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures using standing orders and procedures. Provide nursing care addressing physical, emotional, spiritual, and social‑cultural needs.

Evaluate progress toward outcomes, document observations and interventions, and assess care plan quality. Evaluate own practice against standards, maintain current nursing knowledge, and seek evidence‑based practice improvements. Collaborate with multidisciplinary team, patients, families and other health‑care providers to deliver patient care. Develop and evaluate evidence‑based standards of care, identify practice changes, and support research integration.

Education
  • All Diploma and ADN hires must complete a BSN within 60 months of hire OR have 5 or more years of RN experience (direct patient care or indirect RN roles) at the time of hire.
  • Associates or Diploma in Nursing – required prior to starting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing (BSN) – preferred.
Experience
  • Other: >10 months med‑surg or acute specialty setting – required.
  • 1 year RN experience for all Float positions – required.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) – required.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) – State of Arizona license or compact license – required upon hire.
  • National certification for unit specific patient population – preferred.
