Salary offers are based on the candidate's equivalent experience and internal equity with other employees within the same job classification. This position is eligible for overtime compensation for all hours worked over 40 in the designated workweek.

About the Position

We are seeking an individual to join our team of dedicated technicians who will help us deliver optimal, humane medical care to the animals in our care. As an Animal Health Technician, you will assist in providing proper medical and preventive treatments, as well as appropriate housing, for our shelter animals. This position requires the employee to be in the office and or customer-facing for all hours worked.

Please Note: This position is based at the East Shelter Clinic (1920 S. Lewis St., Mesa, AZ 85201) and requires flexibility to work at the West Shelter Clinic (2500 S. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85009) as operational needs require.

We Require
- One year of experience treating and handling animals in a veterinary clinic, humane society, or similar animal care facility
- High School Diploma or GED
Other Requirements
- Candidates must be flexible and able to work all shifts, including starting as early as 5 am and finishing as late as 7 pm, working weekends and holidays. Employees can be assigned to any shift, with any combination of days off, determined by the Department s needs
We Also Value
- Experience as a veterinary technician at a high-volume spay/neuter clinic or animal shelter
- Completion of a certified curriculum in veterinary technician/assisting
Job Contributions
- Participate in high-volume/high-quality surgery at MCACC by restraining animals for pre-operative exams, inducing animals, preparing animals for surgery, monitoring anesthesia, monitoring recovery, and maintaining surgical cleanliness in the surgical suite
- Provide prescribed medication and perform treatments on shelter animals
- Administer vaccinations and implant microchips into animals
- Clean, disinfect, and maintain the clinic and job-related equipment according to established disease control protocols
- Complete data entries and maintain detailed and accurate animal health records
- Survey the shelter population to identify animals in need of medical attention, grooming, or sterilization
- Assist staff veterinarians with various procedures, including euthanasia and emergency situations
