Job SummaryThe Groundskeeper performs a full range of grounds maintenance and gardening duties; assists in various related construction and landscaping projects; and prepares other special venues according to the user's request or published specifications.
Essential Functions- Mows lawns, trims, prunes trees, fertilizes, maintains irrigation systems, waters, sweeps walkways and building entry ways (30%)
- Performs herbicide and pesticide applications, digs trenches, cultivates, plants and transplants, spreads mulch, rakes leaves/debris (25%)
- Opens/operates various grounds equipment such as tractors, mowers, edger's, trimmers, spreaders, aerators, top dressers, etc. (20%)
- Moves equipment and outdoor fixtures; operates parking lot sweepers and dump truck; empties trash receptacles; ensures safe working conditions (25%)
Completion of formal or informal education or experience which assures the ability to read, write, and speak at a level sufficient for the successful completion of the job duties as described.
Desired Qualifications- Experience working grounds maintenance in a college or large property (20 acres or more)
- Experience with procedures related to irrigation systems
- Experience over seeding and fertilizing turf
- Commercial applicator license for applying pesticides in non‑agricultural settings
- Experience using heavy equipment such as tractors and mowers
- Experience working on gardening beds and/or planting trees
- One year of relevant full‑time MCCCD experience during the previous two years
- Work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and environmental conditions
- May be required to travel to other campus locations
- MCCCD does not sponsor individuals for any type of work visas
