The Quality Control Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of quality assurance within industrial mechanical projects and fabrication processes. This role ensures that materials, workmanship, and installation procedures meet or exceed project specifications, regulatory standards, and client expectations. The Quality Control Director collaborates closely with project managers, fabrication leads, field supervisors, and safety personnel to enforce quality programs, implement continuous improvement practices, and drive a culture of excellence throughout the organization.
EssentialDuties, Roles, Responsibilities & Procedures
- Quality Program Management: Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive quality control programs tailored to industrial mechanical fabrication and construction environments.
- Inspections & Testing: Conduct and oversee inspections of incoming materials, in‑process fabrication, and completed installations to verify compliance with applicable codes, specifications, and standards.
- Document Control: Maintain thorough records of inspections, non‑conformances, corrective actions, and quality audits in accordance with internal procedures and client requirements.
- Project Compliance: Ensure all work meets the quality expectations outlined in project specifications, engineered drawings, and contractual obligations.
- Code & Standards Adherence: Enforce compliance with relevant industry codes (ASME, AWS, API, etc.) and regulatory requirements.
- Personnel Training: Provide training and mentorship to field and fabrication teams on quality standards, inspection techniques, and documentation practices.
- Vendor & Subcontractor Oversight: Evaluate and monitor the quality of work and materials provided by vendors and subcontractors.
- Non‑Conformance Management: Identify quality issues, conduct root cause analyses, and lead corrective/preventive action plans to mitigate recurring defects.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: Work alongside project teams, fabrication supervisors, and field foremen to align quality expectations and proactively resolve issues.
- Process Improvement: Recommend enhancements to production and installation processes based on quality findings and industry best practices.
- Reporting & Communication: Prepare and deliver regular quality reports, progress updates, and compliance summaries to project stakeholders and senior leadership.
- Education &
Certifications: - High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Quality Management, Industrial Engineering, or Construction Management preferred.
- CWI (Certified Welding Inspector) or equivalent preferred.
- OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- Additional NDE/NDT certifications (VT, MT, PT, UT) are a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in quality control within the industrial mechanical, fabrication, or construction industries.
- Proven experience conducting inspections, audits, and implementing quality assurance programs.
- Familiarity with ASME piping and pressure vessel standards, welding procedures, and mechanical system installations.
- Technical
Skills: - Proficient in interpreting engineering drawings, weld symbols, P&IDs, and isometric sketches.
