Job Summary:
To provide for the efficient and economical operation of kitchen and proper quality and quantity of food served daily; breakfast and lunch program to include food presentation, service, cash handling and safety.
Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work for Food & Nutrition in a safety sensitive position. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Responsible for efficient and economical operation of kitchen and proper quality and quantity of food served daily
* Provide for the various aspects of site meal programs to include food, safety and sanitation, presentation, service and cash handling
* Determine and order food amounts necessary for in-house production
* Train and evaluate all kitchen staff; establish job descriptions for kitchen positions
* Responsible for accuracy of time sheet, daily reports, deposits, meal applications processing, production records, direct delivery received and in-house special events
* Assist field supervisor and/or cooking manager in conducting accurate monthly inventories
* Promote school lunch, school lunch week, student and faculty specials, barbecues, catering, etc. to students and staff
* Prepare vendor product performance reports, work orders, monthly reports and safety reports
* Check-in and inspect delivered products
* Responsible for dairy and direct delivery order
* Regular and on-time attendance required
* Promote involvement in professional growth activities
* Assist other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities
* Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
Required Qualifications:
* High school education or equivalent
* Valid Arizona Driver's license with proof of insurance and reliable transportation
* Must have Maricopa County Food Service Worker Certificate
* Must acquire Maricopa County Certified Food Service Manager Certificate within three months
* Knowledge of food production and quantity cooking experience
* Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulation experience
* Working knowledge of food ordering, food production and operation of commercial food equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
* Course work in dietetics, catering, management or supervision and one year experience in school food service highly preferred
* Computer proficiency and cashiering duties preferred

* Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) with students, assigned personnel, district personnel and general public, etc
* Ability and willingness to participate in professional growth activities
Work Environment &
Physical Requirements:
* Works primarily in a high school cafeteria, kitchen, or food storage area
* Must manage meal production efficiently to serve students during short lunch periods
* Must follow strict health, safety, and nutrition guidelines (e.g., USDA regulations, food handling policies)
* Exposure to hot ovens, steamers, dishwashing areas, and cold storage units
* Typically starts work early in the morning to prepare meals before school begins
* May spend hours on their feet preparing and serving meals
* Regularly lifts and carries food supplies, trays, and equipment (typically up to 50 lbs)
