Family Service Counselor – Overview

Accountable for serving client families by making at‑need cemetery arrangements and selling pre‑need arrangements. The Family Service Counselor provides exemplary personalized service and plays an essential role in generating revenue for the cemetery while acting as the primary contact for families.

Responsibilities
  • Lead generation and prospecting a minimum of 1–2 hours each day.
  • Obtain referrals from families served by the location.
  • Network and build community and civic relationships.
  • Explain and present arrangements to families and referred families.
  • Maintain and track activity levels to ensure productivity.
  • Build and maintain relationships with families.
  • Respond to client inquiries in a timely, respectful, sensitive and professional manner.
  • Connect with families through listening, honest communication and genuine concern.
  • Develop an understanding of each family’s unique needs and offer solutions that provide value.
  • Stay in touch with families to ensure satisfaction.
  • Prepare for all appointments and perform procedures with professionalism and attention to detail.
  • Follow through on all customer problems and requests.
  • Build trust‑based relationships to earn the right to ask for referrals.
  • Educate families on the benefits of pre‑planning to protect them and their relatives.
  • Represent a continuous link from services provided at need, through aftercare, to future protection services.
  • Collaborate and team with funeral directors, location managers and other cemetery staff to provide seamless, high‑quality service.
  • Review previous services and contacts with families to prepare for current needs or sales.
  • Share family concerns with the rest of the SCI team.
Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; 1–2 years of college or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience: 1–2 years of customer service or sales experience preferred.
  • Licenses: Current state/province‑issued driver’s license with acceptable driving record; insurance license if required by law.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    • Pass the Company’s internal presentation certification within thirty days of hire.
    • Work a number of evenings and/or weekends each month.
    • Drive frequently and maintain a clean driving record.
    • Obtain and maintain an insurance license if required.
    • Flexible hours; able to work up to 12 hours in a day when necessary.
    • Treat others with empathy and respect.
    • Use computers and related software.
    • Demonstrate strong customer‑service skills.
Compensation

$50,000 to $100,000 targeted compensation, with higher earnings potential based on exceptional performance.
