Facilities Maintenance Technician
Join our Facility Maintenance Team at the City of Olathe! As a Facility Maintenance Technician, your day-to-day tasks keep our city buildings safe, efficient, and operational. Typical duties include troubleshooting HVAC systems, performing electrical and plumbing repairs, responding to security or fire alarms, managing work orders, collaborating on complex repairs, and delivering excellent customer service to City employees and visitors.
Key Responsibilities- Diagnose building systems using tools and instrumentation.
- Maintain and repair plumbing, electrical, lighting, doors, and other building systems.
- Patch, paint, and repair wall systems.
- Assemble and move furnishings and equipment.
- Operate building automation systems to adjust schedules and space temperatures.
- Respond to security or fire alarms and complete required actions.
- Manage the entire work order life cycle in the CMMS.
- Collaborate with teammates on complex repairs.
- Provide outstanding customer service to City employees and visitors.
- Two or more years of experience in general construction or facility maintenance (Technician I); four or more years for Technician II.
- Mechanical and technical aptitude, strong problem‑solving skills, and excellent customer‑service skills.
- High school diploma or equivalent (experience may substitute).
- Valid driver’s license with a favorable driving record.
- Ability to work independently in a variety of environments.
- Environmental or physical demands: use of PPE, hand and power tools, work in wet, cold, or humid conditions, standing, stooping, bending, walking, kneeling, crawling, reaching, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working at heights with ladders or stairs.
- Facilities Maintenance Technician I: $21.75 to $26.51 per hour.
- Facilities Maintenance Technician II: $23.75 to $29.11 per hour.
Monday to Friday: 7:30AM to 4:00PM. Participation in an after‑hours on‑call rotation is required.
