Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Center Technician to join our client's data center installation team. This role involves installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining low voltage systems and networking infrastructure within a fast-paced and high-security data center environment. The ideal candidate has experience working with low voltage cabling, fiber optics, and network equipment installation, adhering to industry standards and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities- Install, terminate, and test low voltage cabling, including Cat5e/6/6A, fiber optic, and coaxial cables, in data center environments.
- Install and mount networking equipment such as routers, switches, patch panels, and firewalls in server racks.
- Perform cable management, labeling, and patching, ensuring all work adheres to established standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues with low voltage cabling and networking equipment, performing tests and inspections to ensure optimal performance.
- Collaborate with data center engineers, electricians, and other team members to coordinate installations and upgrades.
- Read and interpret technical blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.
- Maintain high standards of safety and security, following all data center protocols and guidelines.
- Keep accurate records of installations, updates, and repairs performed.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and technologies relevant to low voltage systems and networking hardware.
- High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certifications are a plus (e.g., BICSI, CompTIA Network+).
- Experience installing and maintaining low voltage cabling and networking equipment, preferably in a data center environment.
- Proficiency with cable testing tools and network equipment.
- Strong understanding of industry standards such as ANSI/TIA/EIA and BICSI.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and wiring diagrams.
- Familiarity with power distribution units (PDUs) and server rack configurations.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces and high places.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends, as needed.
- Experience with hyper-scale data centers.
- Experience with structured cabling systems.
