Job DescriptionAs a 2nd Shift Braz er, you will be responsible for assembling and brazing large diameter copper and steel piping systems used in natural gas, chiller, and industrial HVAC applications. This role requires heavy industrial brazing experience, including the ability to reach and control higher brazing temperatures, and perform joints in all positions.
Responsibilities- Perform torch brazing on piping systems ranging from 1.5-inch to 4-inch diameter.
- Braze copper to copper and copper to steel joints for natural gas and industrial HVAC systems.
- Assemble and join copper, steel, and alloy components used in chillers and HVAC systems.
- Perform brazing operations on piping, coils, compressors, valves, and fittings.
- Complete joints in multiple positions, including uphill, downhill, and horizontal joints.
- Heat joints to controlled brazing temperatures, typically between 600°C and 900°C (1,100°F–1,650°F).
- Apply silver-based and copper phosphorus filler alloys with melting ranges between 620°C and 780°C (1,150°F–1,435°F).
- Monitor flame characteristics and heat distribution to ensure proper filler flow and prevent overheating, oxidation, or distortion.
- Use continuous nitrogen purging during brazing to prevent internal oxidation and carbon buildup.
- Prepare joints by cleaning, fitting, and aligning components prior to heating.
- Inspect brazed joints visually and mechanically for proper flow, penetration, and structural integrity.
- Perform pressure and leak testing using methods like nitrogen testing, helium testing, vacuum decay, and soap solution.
- Repair defective joints and perform controlled rework following approved procedures.
- Maintain torches, regulators, temperature indicators, and gas supply systems.
- Follow hot work permits, fire prevention protocols, and PPE requirements.
- Record process parameters and report deviations from approved temperature ranges.
- Participate in quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proven experience as a Pipefitter or Industrial Brazing Technician.
- Hands-on experience with heavy industrial torch brazing.
- Experience working with larger diameter pipe (1.5”–4”).
- Ability to braze copper to copper and copper to steel joints.
- Experience achieving and controlling industrial brazing temperatures.
- Ability to perform brazing in all joint positions.
- Experience in natural gas, chiller, or industrial HVAC systems.
- Strong understanding of heat control, joint preparation, and filler material selection.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and piping schematics.
- Familiarity with codes defining pressure equipment and piping standards.
Skills & Qualifications
- Must be familiar with Oxy-Acetylene gas for braze test.
- Completion of a brazing or welding school program.
- Blueprint reading, manufacturing, and plumbing skills.
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $32.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to specific elections, plan, or program terms.

The work environment includes lifting and moving up to 45 pounds, standing for the majority of the day, and using personal protective equipment. The dress code includes steel toes, jeans or work pants, and a T-shirt or polo.
