Employment Type:

Full-time (40 hours per week)

Base Hourly: $17.78

Class/Calendar: A13, 12 months

New Hire

Experience:

1% of the base hourly rate granted for each year of verified like experience (within ten years) beyond the requirement, up to a ten-year maximum

Education:

1% of the base hourly rate awarded for an AA or higher degree if not required for the position

Job Summary:

To clean various roof systems; and to test roof drain systems.

Prior to employment or during the first 3 months of new hire probationary period, drug and alcohol testing shall be required of all new contract employees who work in Maintenance. Any applicants having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Clean off various roof systems (i.e. single-ply, built up roof, shingles, cap sheet, foam, etc)
• Test drain systems; check for leaks and/or damage to roof system
• Perform minor repairs of various roof systems
• Provide written documentation regarding condition and needed repairs of roofs
• Replace ceiling tiles (suspended and hard deck)
• Regular and on-time attendance required
• Work with other tradesmen as required to repair ceilings and walls
• May supervise outside contractors
• Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools

Required Qualifications:

• High School education or equivalent
• Valid Arizona driver's license

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the roofing trade

Work Environment &

Physical Requirements:

• Primarily works outside on rooftops in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, wind, rain)
• Regular exposure to heights, requiring safe practices and use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Exposure to loud equipment (e.g., drills, nail guns, saws), adhesives, and sealants
• Often works while schools are in session, requiring adherence to safety standards and interaction with staff or students
• May need to move between various campuses or buildings within the district
• Frequent climbing ladders, scaffolds, and walking on sloped or uneven roof surfaces
• Lifting and carrying roofing materials (up to 50-75 pounds) such as shingles, tiles, tar, and tools
