Welder and Fitter – Structural Mining Equipment
This position focuses on structural welding, fitting, and fabrication to repair and refurbish large-scale mining excavators and related heavy equipment. You will work inside a large, swamp-cooled fabrication bay, performing structural repairs on critical components that experience heavy wear and tear, using a combination of welding, gouging, cutting, and fitting skills to restore equipment to safe and reliable operation.
Responsibilities- Perform structural welding repairs on large mining excavators and other heavy equipment subjected to heavy-duty use.
- Repair cracks, fractures, and worn components that result from ongoing equipment operation.
- Weld a variety of materials, including AR400 and other abrasion-resistant steels, as well as mild and softer steels.
- Gouge out defective or failed welds using appropriate techniques as part of repair and rebuild work.
- Apply daily fabrication skills to cut, bend, fit, modify, and reinforce structural components to specification.
- Use an oxy-acetylene torch to cut steel and to preheat AR steels prior to welding to ensure proper weld quality.
- Read and interpret blueprints, shop drawings, weld symbols, and specifications to perform accurate layout and fit-up.
- Grind, finish, and prepare materials and welds as needed to meet quality and safety standards.
- Maintain high levels of quality, accuracy, and structural integrity on critical components.
