Job SummaryTo coordinate district vehicle repairs with vendors and district users; to perform vehicle emission testing; and to ensure the availability of district vehicles in safe operating condition.
All Transportation employees may be subject to pre-employment drug testing and alcohol testing, as well as random testing throughout employment. Due to federal safety regulation, this includes marijuana/THC/CBD. Any employee having a confirmed positive test shall not be eligible for employment.
Key Responsibilities- Regular and on-time attendance required
- Coordinate the scheduling of vehicle repairs with district mechanics, outside vendors and district users to ensure the availability of vehicles in safe operating condition
- Prepare work orders to initiate repairs and/or maintenance on district vehicles
- Schedule and perform vehicle emission testing on district vehicles to ensure compliance of state and federal regulations
- Monitor fuel inventory to ensure adequate supply and availability
- Maintain vehicle documentation and records (i.e. fuel usage, emission testing, repair history, etc.) to provide written support and/or to convey information
- Research discrepancies between the vehicle management software and the work order system to provide accurate information
- Respond to inquiries regarding status of district vehicles being serviced
- Resolves concerns or complaints on service or repair vehicles
- Enforce and adhere to district policies and procedures
- Ensure shop is maintained and free from hazards and safe work procedures are followed
- Perform quality control checks and inspections on repaired and serviced vehicles prior to release to users
- Supervise and direct work of shop personnel
- Provide information to the transportation department to assist in the completion of reports
- Perform other related duties, as assigned, to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit
- Assists with other assigned duties as appropriate to the area of assignment and Mesa Public Schools
- High School education or equivalent preferred
- Valid, or ability to obtain, Arizona class B CDL driver’s license
- Arizona Fleet Manager Emission Certification
- Five years’ mechanical experience with knowledge of gasoline and diesel-powered engines
- Minimum three years’ supervisory experience required with proven ability to work with and to lead others; above average leadership; problem solving and decision-making skills
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License with clean driving record

- Proficient in diagnostic testing equipment of automotive and maintenance shops; ability to troubleshoot mechanical problems of district vehicles
- Ability to read, to understand and to work from computer generated work orders and maintenance reports
- Ability to organize, to prioritize, to direct and to monitor and effective and efficient fleet repair program
- Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written) and to establish and to maintain effective and cooperative working relationships
- Ability to work overtime and to change schedules with minimal notice; willingness to work non-regular hours (weekends, night shift, swing shift, holidays)
