Position: Substitute Teacher I (Mesquite)
ABSTRACT OF THE POSITION:

Under the direct guidance of the Early Head Start Center Director, the EHS Substitute Teacher, is responsible for assisting in the implementation of the Early Head Start program, philosophy, and goals in the absence of, or as adjunct to the regular EHS Teacher/Parent Educator. This position shares responsibility for the academic, social, and behavioral operation of the classroom and conducting home visits.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES (including but not limited to):

Assists in the completion of necessary classroom, center, and home base duties.

Works cooperatively with Early Head Start staff and families.

Assists in maintaining a safe, neat, and organized classroom and visiting area.

Participates in developmentally appropriate indoor/outdoor activities.

Adheres to federal, state, and local health and safety policies and procedures.

Responsible for understanding Early Head Start Performance Standards, Child Care Licensing regulations, and SCF's Policies and Procedures.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS &

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Physical demands:
Lifting up to 50 pounds, bending, kneeling, crouching, sitting on the floor, and using hands and fingers to manipulate equipment.

Visual and auditory abilities:
Able to see and hear to read materials, conduct conversations, and share developmental reports with families.

Working environment:
Includes childcare center, office, and client homes, with some exposure to bodily fluids and communicable diseases and moderate to loud noise levels.

Compliance:
Upholds and adheres to SCF's Safety Program responsibilities, including attending training, reporting hazards, and cleaning up spills or other safety concerns.

Education & Work Experience

Experience with infants/toddlers in a group setting is preferred

Skills & Abilities Must have ability to speak, read, communicate, and write English well enough to understand and be understood is necessary.

Must have the ability to gather and interpret moderately complex information.

Ability to read and understand basic child development written material is required.

Ability to exhibit patience and tact when communicating with children, families, staff, supervisor, and co-workers is a requirement.

Must be willing to work at any of the Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Henderson or Boulder City Campuses as needed.

Other requirements include acquiring CPR/First Aid training, Live Scan Fingerprinting, negative TB results, physical, and passing drug/alcohol testing.
