Part-Time/Hourly/Generic - Support Specialist

Shift Type: Part-Time
Reports To: Executive Director - Professional Learning
This position is funded with Title II, Part A and continued funding of this position will be based on the availability of funding.

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
- To provide ongoing, differentiated support and job-embedded learning opportunities to beginning teachers.
Education/Certification:
- Texas Teacher Certification
- Master's Degree Preferred
- Demonstrates successful experience as a classroom teacher
- Exemplifies effective classroom management and instructional best practices
- Establishes and maintains positive and productive peer relationships
- Demonstrates flexibility and positive interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Exhibits a commitment to his or her own professional growth and learning
- Displays positivity toward the profession and MISD
- Minimum of 5 years successful teaching experience
- Provide planning support, modeling, co-teaching, and feedback through a gradual release model to a small and changing caseload of teachers through the school year.
- Provide intentional and intensive onboarding assistance to new teachers.
- Actively engage in training and planning with other Teaching Support Specialists at a predetermined time each week.
- Work with uncertified and beginning teachers to develop and implement individual plans for development in both classroom management and pedagogy.
- Differentiate approaches based on the needs of the individual teachers.
- Provide consultation and guidance to teachers on matters related to classroom routines and procedures, planning needs, student engagement strategies, positive classroom environment, time management, managing paperwork, student behavior and parent communication ( and other topics as the need arises).
- Arrange for new teachers to visit various classroom throughout the district.
- Keep documentation logs on interactions and progress with teachers.
- Gather data on teacher progress as measured by the Professional Learning Department.
- Respond to surveys and feedback forms sent throughout the year from the Professional Learning Department.
- Other duties related to teacher growth as assigned by the Professional Learning Department.
