Position Title
Teacher/Girls Varsity Basketball Assistant Coach – Reading Language Arts (MHS) (Job )
Primary PurposeTo plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program that maximizes student achievement through research‑based approaches, optimal use of technology, and community resources.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree with appropriate state certification for subject and level assigned.
- Demonstrate a cognitive understanding of the subject matter and pedagogical skills in one’s teaching field.
- Possess excellent communication skills.
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
- Exhibit excellent public relations and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
- Demonstrate highly effective organizational and consensus building skills.
- Understand the value of planning and develop and implement short- and long‑range instructional plans based on instructional strategies, discipline knowledge, student needs, performance, community, and curriculum.
- Understand various learning styles and show competence in developing instruction appropriate to students’ developmental needs.
- Provide instruction appropriate to diverse cultures and populations, learning styles, and background experiences.
- Develop a variety of instructional strategies, technologies, resources, and techniques for problem solving and critical‑thinking skills.
- Possess knowledge for critiquing, constructing, and utilizing multiple forms of assessment to monitor progress, modify instruction, and set goals.
- Employ effective communication techniques, including verbal, nonverbal, and media communication sensitive to student differences and needs.
- Basic understanding of the impact of technology in assigned curricular areas.
- Follow all policies and procedures of the MISD.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- None required beyond certification from an accredited teacher preparation program.
Alternatives may be found acceptable by Administration.
- Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area(s) of responsibility.
- Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ maturity, interest, and abilities.
- Guide the learning process toward achieving established district curriculum goals.
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media consistent with available resources.
- Assess students’ accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents as necessary.
- Identify special needs of students and seek assistance as needed.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula per IEP guidelines.
- Develop a student behavior plan consistent with administrative policies.
- Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulation.
- Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Be available to students daily and to parents by appointment.
- Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers and provide written evaluations.
- Maintain a program of professional growth fulfilling district requirements and personal expectations.
- Participate in the district‑approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to a mutual agreement concerning evaluation results.
- Attend campus and district meetings to promote communication and mutual decision making among staff.
- Attend school‑sponsored activities agreed upon by principal and faculty.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Aides, student teachers, student groups, etc., as assigned by the administration.
- Mental Demands: communicating well, making multiple decisions regarding student education, physical and emotional well‑being, and maintaining emotional control under stress.
- Stand, walk, and verbalize for long periods of time.
- Lift or move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
- Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
