In School Intervention Program Classroom Assistant (Horn)

- Position Type: Paraprofessional - Campus/ Instructional Assistant
- Pay Grade: 1
- Shift Type: Full-Time
- Wage/Hour Status: Non-Exempt
- Reports To: Principal
- Employment Begins: As soon as possible
- To assist one or more teachers in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements.
- Work under the supervision of a certified teacher.
- Education/Certification: High School Diploma/GED
- Ability to work well with children and exhibit effective working relationships with staff and school community.
- Ability to communicate effectively.
- No prior experience required.
- Some experience working with children preferred.
- Collaborate with the teacher to set up classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units.
- Escort students to and from various rooms.
- Assist in small group pupil instruction and tutor students at teacher's request.
- Help supervise students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty.
- Keep teacher informed of special needs or problems concerning individual students.
- Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.
- Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
- Help maintain discipline and other non-instructional functions.
- Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
- Record attendance information and related clerical functions with the teacher.
- Supervise students when teacher is temporarily absent.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Writing simple correspondence and effectively presenting information in one-on-one and small group situations.
- Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Maintain emotional control under stress.
- Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 20 lbs.
- Standing, bending, walking, talking, hearing.
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
