Primary Purpose

To plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program in a way that includes the best use of research findings, time, space, available technology, financial and community resources, so that student achievement will be maximized.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate state certification for subject and level assigned.
  • Demonstrate a cognitive understanding of the subject matter and pedagogical skills.
  • Possess excellent communication, public‑relations, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of change process, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Effective organizational and consensus‑building abilities.
  • Ability to develop and implement short‑ and long‑term instructional plans based on student needs and performance.
  • Understanding of varied learning styles and competency in delivering appropriate instruction.
  • Ability to provide instruction sensitive to diverse cultures and backgrounds.
  • Proficiency in developing instructional strategies, technologies, resources, and techniques for problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of assessment techniques to monitor progress, modify instruction, and set goals.
  • Basic understanding of technology’s impact in assigned curricular areas.
  • Follow all MISD policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Experience
  • No experience required beyond certification from an accredited teacher preparation program.
  • Alternatives acceptable if administration approves.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning that suits students’ maturity, interests, and abilities.
  • Guide learning toward the achievement of district curriculum goals.
  • Employ varied instructional techniques and media consistent with the physical location and student needs.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports as required, and communicate with parents as necessary.
  • Identify special needs of students and seek assistance from others as needed.
  • Collaborate with special education teachers to modify curricula as required by Individual Education Plans (IEP).
  • Develop a consistent student behavior plan aligned with administrative policies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records per law, district policy, and regulation.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be available to students daily and to parents by appointment.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers; provide written evaluations as required.
  • Maintain ongoing professional growth per district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Participate actively in the teacher evaluation process and collaborate on agreement of outcomes.
  • Attend campus and district meetings to promote communication and decision‑making among staff.
  • Participate in school‑sponsored activities agreed upon by the principal and faculty.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Aides, student teachers, student groups, etc., as assigned by the administration.
Working Conditions

Mental Demands:

  • Communicating well and making multiple decisions regarding student educational, physical, and emotional well‑being while maintaining emotional control under stress.
  • Standing, walking, and speaking for long periods.
  • Lifting or moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  • Working frequent, prolonged, and irregular hours.
