Primary Purpose

To plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program that incorporates research findings, technology, and community resources to maximize student achievement, especially for students whose primary language is Spanish.

Qualifications – Education / Certification
  • Bachelor's Degree with appropriate state certification for assigned subject and level.
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Proficiency in speaking, writing, reading, and listening Spanish.
  • Demonstrated cognitive understanding of subject matter and pedagogical skills in teaching field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Public‑relations skills.
  • Knowledge of change processes, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation.
  • Highly effective organizational and consensus‑building skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement short- and long‑term instructional plans based on strategies, discipline knowledge, student needs, performance data, community context, and curriculum.
  • Understanding of learning styles and capacity to deliver instruction tailored to developmental needs.
  • Understanding of cultural diversity to provide instruction appropriate to diverse cultures, styles, and background experiences.
  • Ability to develop varied instructional strategies, technologies, resources, and techniques for problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Use of multiple assessment techniques to monitor progress, adapt instruction, and set goals.
  • Effective communication techniques, including verbal, nonverbal, and media, sensitive to student differences.
  • Basic understanding of the impact of technology in curricular areas.
  • Compliance with all MISD policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience
  • No experience required beyond certification from an accredited teacher preparation program.
  • Alternative qualifications may be considered at the Administration’s discretion.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area(s).
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, suitable to students’ maturity, interest, and abilities.
  • Guide students toward achievement of district curriculum goals.
  • Employ varied instructional techniques and media consistent with location constraints and student capabilities.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Identify special needs and seek assistance as required.
  • Collaborate with special‑education teachers to modify curricula for special‑education students per IEP guidelines.
  • Develop student behavior plans aligned with administrative policies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records per law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be available to students and parents daily, and by appointment.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers; conduct written evaluations.
  • Maintain ongoing professional growth programs fulfilling district requirements and personal expectations.
  • Participate in teacher evaluation process and contribute to agreement on results.
  • Attend campus and district meetings for communication and decision-making.
  • Attend school‑sponsored activities such as orientations, open houses, and programs as directed by the principal.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversee aides, student teachers, and student groups as assigned.
Working Conditions
  • Communicating well, making multiple decisions regarding students' educational, physical, and emotional well‑being while maintaining emotional control under stress.
  • Standing, walking, and speaking for long periods.
  • Lifting or moving small stacks of textbooks and classroom equipment.
  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
