Primary Purpose
  • To provide instruction and assistance necessary to enable all children to achieve and function successfully in the least restrictive environment.
Qualifications
  • Education/Certification:

    Bachelor's Degree, Special Education Certificate
  • Special Knowledge/

    Skills:

    Understanding of various disabilities and special education law; skills to assist in remediation of various disabilities; excellent communication, public relation, and interpersonal skills; knowledge of MISD policies and procedures; knowledge of change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills
  • Experience:

    None; alternatives acceptable per administration
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach children with learning impairments to function in regular classroom with modifications.
  • Plan programs of study that meet the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Attend Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings.
  • Develop and update the individual education plan for students.
  • Work in collaboration with classroom teachers to formulate teaching strategies, plan appropriate lessons, and evaluate student progress.
  • Reveal confidential information concerning students only when disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.
  • Other School Health and Related Services (SHARS) duties as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Mental Demands:
    Performing medical and personal hygiene procedures consistently; lifting students.
