PRIMARY PURPOSETo provide instruction and assistance to teachers and paraprofessionals to enable them to help students achieve and function successfully in the least restrictive environment. Assist with technical assistance for inquiries related to the efficient operation of applications used by special education classroom personnel.
QUALIFICATIONSEducation/Certification:
- Special Education Teacher Certification
- Have an understanding of various disabilities and special education law (ARD process/paperwork).
- Possess skills to assist teachers in remediating various disabilities.
- Exhibit excellent communication (verbal and written), public relation, and interpersonal skills.
- Possess knowledge and understanding of the policies and procedures of the MISD.
- Possess knowledge and understanding of the change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
- Have knowledge of visual strategies and communication techniques.
- Expertise in technology.
- Successful experience as a special education classroom teacher.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
- Attend ARD meetings on an as needed basis.
- Visit special education classrooms in an effort to provide feedback and suggestions.
- Attend conferences and trainings on instructional strategies.
- Facilitate the new units in ordering materials and setting up the classrooms.
- Provide staff development for teachers and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work directly with elementary Special and General Education teachers to provide support and consult about strategies to assist with students and teaching.
- Observe students and teachers to provide recommendations.
- Help guide teachers with the implementation of instructional strategies.
- Assist with Progress Reports.
- Assist with New Teacher Academy.
- Conduct Instructional Specialist Requests and Placement Review Requests.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Lifting and transporting teaching materials and supplies from one campus to another throughout the school day.
