PRIMARY PURPOSE

To plan, develop, and implement an effective instructional program in a way that includes the best use of research findings, time, space, available technology, financial and community resources, so that student achievement will be maximized.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education:

    Bachelor's Degree, with appropriate state certification for subject and level assigned.
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS
  • Demonstrate a cognitive understanding of the subject matter and pedagogical skills in teaching field.
  • Possess excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Exhibit excellent public relations and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge and understanding of change process, organizational development, conflict resolution, and facilitation skills.
  • Demonstrate highly effective organizational and consensus-building skills.
  • Ability to develop and implement short- and long‑range instructional plans based on effective strategies, discipline knowledge, student needs, and performance.
  • Understand various learning styles and competent in delivering instruction appropriate to developmental needs.
  • Understand cultural diversity and provide instruction appropriate for diverse cultures and populations.
  • Develop instructional strategies, technologies, resources, and techniques for problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Know assessment techniques to monitor progress, modify instruction, and set goals.
  • Effective communication skills, including verbal, nonverbal, media communication sensitive to differences.
  • Basic understanding of technology impact in curricular areas.
  • Follow all policies and procedures of MISD.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE
  • None required beyond certification from an accredited teacher preparation program.
  • Administrative may consider alternatives to these qualifications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
  • Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area(s) of responsibility.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning suitable for students’ maturity, interests, and abilities.
  • Guide learning toward achievement of district curriculum goals.
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, consistent with location and students’ needs.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly, provide progress reports, and communicate with parents as needed.
  • Identify students’ special needs and obtain assistance as necessary.
  • Cooperate with special education teachers to modify curricula for special education students per IEP guidelines.
  • Develop a student behavior plan in accordance with administrative policies.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and regulations.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Be available to students daily and to parents by appointment.
  • Plan and supervise assignments for teacher aides, volunteers, and student teachers; evaluate written work as required.
  • Maintain ongoing professional growth program meeting district and personal expectations.
  • Participate in district‑approved teacher evaluation process, contributing to mutual agreement on results.
  • Attend campus and district meetings to promote communication and decision‑making among staff.
  • Attend school‑sponsored activities such as Student Orientations, Open House, and similar events, as agreed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Aides, student teachers, and student groups assigned by administration.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • Communicating well, making decisions regarding students' educational, physical, and emotional well‑being, maintaining emotional control under stress.
  • Standing, walking, and verbalizing for long periods.
  • Lifting or moving small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment.
  • Frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
