• Assist the special education teacher in meeting the physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities. Support classroom program implementation, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under the general supervision of the principal and the immediate direction of a certified teacher.

• High School Diploma or GED
• Texas Educational Aide Certificate

• Experience working with children preferred

• Collaborate with the teacher in preparing instructional materials and classroom displays
• Assist with the instructional program under the direct supervision of a certified teacher, adapting to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs
• Assist the teacher in maintaining administrative records and preparing required reports
• Assist students with physical disabilities, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, and positioning
• Provide personal care to students with physical needs, including feeding, bathroom assistance, and hygiene support
• Help manage student behavior under the supervision of a certified teacher
• Work with individual students or small groups to develop motor skills and execute instructional exercises assigned by the teacher
• Report any special needs or problems of individual students to the teacher
• Assist the assessment team by administering achievement and development tests
• Supervise students throughout the day, inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers
• Maintain confidentiality
• Attend staff development training, faculty meetings, and special events as needed
• Supervise students when the teacher is temporarily absent
• Perform other duties as assigned
• Other School Health and Related Services (SHARS) duties as assigned
