PRIMARY

PURPOSE:

To assist the teacher in general daily classroom activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Education/Certification:
  
  High School Diploma/GED Texas Educational Aide Certificate
• SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/
  
  SKILLS:
  
  Exhibit effective working relationships with students, staff and school community. Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish

MAJOR

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Assist in small group pupil instruction and tutor students at teacher's request in either English or Spanish as needed.
• Plan and implement pre-kindergarten physical education instruction based on district provided curriculum.
• Help maintain discipline and other non-instructional functions.
• Record attendance information and related clerical functions with the teacher.
• Collaborate with the teacher to set up classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units.
• Assemble materials for bulletin boards and keep displays current.
• Operate standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, etc.
• Escort children to and from various rooms.
• Supervise students when teacher is temporarily absent
• Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Mental Demands:
  Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; writing simple correspondence in English and Spanish. Present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
• Physical demands/environmental factors:
  Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 lbs. Standing, walking, talking, and hearing. Climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Noise level is usually loud at a standard acceptable level for this environment.
