Role Description

The Middle School Mathematics Teacher at Ignite Community School – Mesquite will facilitate rigorous, engaging, and TEKS-aligned mathematics instruction for students in grades 6–8. This teacher develops student competencies in mathematical reasoning, problem-solving, and quantitative literacy, while building the confidence every scholar needs to succeed in advanced coursework and beyond. The Middle School Math Teacher provides leadership, motivation, and high-quality instruction that meets each student where they are and challenges them to grow.

Responsibilities

Instructional Delivery & Planning

  • Prepare and deliver effective, TEKS-aligned mathematics lessons that instruct and motivate students in grades 6–8 through rigorous, evidence-based instructional strategies.
  • Assign lessons, classwork, and homework aligned to grade-level standards and correct them in a timely manner.
  • Administer formative and summative assessments to evaluate student progress, record results, and issue reports informing parents of student performance.
  • Provide academic interventions and targeted support for struggling students, including alignment with campus MTSS Tier 2 and Tier 3 supports.
  • Maintain student grades, classroom calendar, and student-parent communication via the school's online grading and communication tool.

Classroom Culture & Management

  • Maintain a safe, structured, and engaging classroom environment conducive to mathematical inquiry and student learning.
  • Maintain discipline and behavioral expectations consistent with Ignite's PBIS framework.
  • Set a positive example for classroom care and organization, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning environment.
  • Inspire, praise, and correct students with consistency, care, and interest to encourage academic success and character development.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Regularly communicate with students and parents to discuss student progress — celebrating growth and addressing areas of need.
  • Actively participate in marketing and student recruiting activities as necessary.
  • Perform duties such as sponsoring one or more activities or student organizations, assisting students in course selection, and counseling students on academic and adjustment challenges.

Professional Responsibilities & Collaboration

  • Participate in required faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
  • Work closely with Special Education and 504 staff to ensure student accommodations are implemented with fidelity in the mathematics classroom.
  • Read and comply with the RES Employee Handbook, the RES Student-Parent Handbook, the Campus Handbook, and other RES manuals and procedures documents.
