Overview
General Description:
This position does not require a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement certificate nor is it a law enforcement position. It performs complex investigative work in support of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (TxDMV), Enforcement Division (ENF), Motor Carrier Investigations. The role processes, investigates and resolves motor carrier complaints and/or inquiries regarding business activities regulated by TxDMV. It requires research and analysis of complex records to determine compliance with state and federal regulations, and involves contact with high-level executives, attorneys, governmental officials and private entities.
Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for initiative and independent judgment.
- Review and evaluate consumer complaints to determine if a violation has occurred and make recommendations concerning action to be taken.
- Conduct field investigations and/or investigations of reported and suspected violations of statutes and rules; document observations and findings.
- Gather, examine and analyze complex records necessary to complete investigations.
- Develop lists, contacts and/or interview potential witnesses.
- Prepare investigative or inspection reports of findings and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain complaint files, investigation files and reports; secure confidential information.
- Conduct research of state and federal statutes, regulations and other issues affecting area of jurisdiction.
- Coordinate with regulated businesses and consumers regarding complaints.
- Answer inquiries and provide guidance to regulated businesses.
- Make recommendations concerning administrative penalties and assist in the correction of violations.
- Use negotiation/mediation skills to resolve complaints, as appropriate.
- Provide expert testimony in court cases as needed.
- Attend work regularly and adhere to approved work hours; travel up to 50% of the time, may include overnight travel; travel by plane or car; extended hours and some evenings/weekends as needed.

- Minimum Requirements
- Education:
Graduation from high school or the equivalent. College education or technical training in law enforcement, investigations or related field may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Official sealed transcripts of all college hours/degrees listed on the State of Texas application are required on or before the first day of employment if selected. - Experience:
Four (4) years of experience in conducting investigations, audits, compliance reviews, or work involving data or evidence collection, research, and analysis. Experience requirements may be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent.
