Join to apply for the MRI Tech PRN role at Akumin®. As a PRN MRI Technologist, you are responsible for producing cross-sectional images for medical interpretation through radio frequencies within a magnetic field for diagnostic purposes. The technologist performs MRI procedures by acquiring and analyzing data needed for diagnosis at the request of and for interpretation by a licensed practitioner. The technologist independently performs or assists a licensed practitioner in completing MRI procedures.
The technologist prepares, administers and documents activities related to contrast administration in accordance with federal and state laws, regulations, or institutional policy. The role requires flexibility with availability as a per-diem technologist, responding to coverage requests and covering at least one shift in a 30-day period.
- Be responsible for patient safety, including pre-screening for contraindications, restricting access related to zones, screening, equipment, and exam scanning; exercise judgment in the procedure; aseptic technique; may oversee remote MRI Technologist Assistants.
- Produce high-quality diagnostic images in accordance with imaging protocols, Rad Site Accreditation guidelines, and ARRT/ARMRIT standards. Demonstrate competency with MR equipment and power injection equipment. Maintain quality levels matching customer expectations through team-based process improvements. Complete annual and ongoing education and site-specific competencies/in-services as designated by leadership.
- Communicate effectively with customers and radiologists. Use appropriate channels to address concerns, solve problems, and address conflicts. Maintain confidentiality per HIPAA.
- Demonstrate independent competency in contrast safety and administration, including starting and discontinuing IVs, and administration through other vascular access points as indicated. Demonstrate proficiency with Akumin’s EMR, PACS and DICOM systems.
- Train and orient new technologists, patient coordinators and MR Technologist Assistants on site or remotely as needed.
- Other duties as assigned by leadership.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required;
Associate's Degree or equivalent experience preferred. - ARRT(MR) or ARMRIT certification as allowable by contract in lieu of ARRT.
- State license, if applicable, required.
- CPR/BLS certification from AHA or ARC; ACLS where applicable.
- Valid state driver’s license, as applicable.
- Minimum 3 years technologist experience.
- Ability to work at several locations.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Organizational, multi-tasking, and critical thinking skills.
- Basic computer skills.
- Local travel may be required.
- 1 year of Magnetic Resonance Imaging experience.
- Registry in Magnetic Resonance by ARRT.
The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions during transport of patients if working on a mobile unit. The employee will be exposed to a strong magnetic field and may be exposed to blood/body fluids and infectious disease.
Physical demands:
- More than 50% of the time: sit, stand, walk; repetitive movement of hands, arms and legs; see, speak and hear to communicate with patients.
- Less than 50% of the time: stoop, kneel or crawl; climb and balance; carry and lift non-ambulatory patients for transfer or exam.
