The Assistant IT Engineer is an entry-level IT position designed for a recent graduate or early-career professional looking to build hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will support daily IT operations, end-user support, equipment maintenance, network connectivity, and IT projects under the guidance of the IT Manager and senior IT team members.
This role is ideal for someone who has recently completed an IT internship, co-op, or academic program and is ready to transition into a full-time position. The Assistant IT Engineer will have the opportunity to develop practical technical skills while supporting a fast-paced manufacturing facility.
Responsibilities IT Support & Troubleshooting- Provide first-level technical support to local employees for hardware, software, network, printer, telephone, VPN, and connectivity issues
- Troubleshoot and resolve common PC, laptop, printer, and peripheral issues
- Assist with installation, configuration, and maintenance of IT equipment
- Support users with basic Microsoft Office and other business applications
- Escalate complex technical issues to senior IT staff or appropriate support teams
- Assist with maintaining reliable local network connectivity and user access
- Support basic configuration and troubleshooting of routers, switches, and network equipment under direction
- Assist with telephone, network, and structured cabling systems
- Support VPN and remote-access troubleshooting
- Follow established IT procedures and security requirements
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot meeting room technology, including phones, projectors, video conferencing systems, televisions, and audio equipment
- Provide technical support for meetings and presentations when needed
- Assist with setup and maintenance of IT equipment throughout the facility
- Assist with tracking and maintaining IT assets and equipment
- Maintain accurate records of equipment assignments, ownership, and inventory
- Support equipment installation, replacement, relocation, and disposal activities
- Follow established IT procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Assist with IT infrastructure, network, and facility technology projects
- Provide technical support for new equipment installations and facility projects
- Work with local users and headquarters IT teams to communicate issues and coordinate solutions
- Participate in IT training and develop knowledge of company systems and technologies
- Support daily IT requests and other projects as assigned by the supervisor
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
- Internship, co-op, academic project, or other hands-on experience in IT is preferred
- Strong interest in developing a career in IT infrastructure and technical support
- Good English communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
- Willingness to work assigned shifts, including nights when required
- Recent internship or hands-on experience providing IT support
- Experience troubleshooting PCs, printers, networking, telephones, or other IT equipment
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP, networking, routers, and switches
- Familiarity with VPN and remote-access technologies
- Basic knowledge of structured cabling or low-voltage systems
- Experience with IT asset management or ticketing systems
- Basic PC and hardware troubleshooting
- Printer installation, configuration, and troubleshooting
- Basic network troubleshooting and connectivity support
- Basic understanding of routers, switches, and network equipment
- VPN and telephone system troubleshooting
- Microsoft Office and Windows environments
- Basic understanding of network cabling and low-voltage systems
- Ability to follow technical documentation, SOPs, and troubleshooting procedures
- On-site position within a manufacturing facility
- Regular interaction with employees across multiple departments
- May require walking throughout the facility and working in various operational areas
- May occasionally require work outside normal business hours or on night shifts
- Requires compliance with company IT security, safety, and facility requirements
