Registered Nurse (RN) – Charge Nurse
Job Purpose: To provide nursing care to residents as prescribed by the physician and in accordance with standards of nursing practices and regulations.
EssentialJob Duties and Responsibilities
Nursing Care: Prepare and review medical records and nurse’s notes, assess residents to evaluate their physical and emotional status, monitor activity, evaluate nursing care per professional standards, and provide care according to physician orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies. Coordinate new admissions, transfers, and discharges; transcribe telephone orders. Communicate resident status to residents, families, interdisciplinary team members, and management.
Drug Administration and Documentation: Prepare and administer medications as ordered, sign, date, and perform all charting and record‑keeping in accordance with policies and procedures.
Direct Patient Care: Lead and monitor licensed and other professionals; schedule job assignments and set priorities. Assist and coach staff, provide feedback, and serve as team leader when needed.
Resident Rights: Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding residents’ rights.
Other Job FunctionsCare Plans: Assist and participate in developing and implementing written care plans for individual residents that address their needs.
Staff Development: Participate in in‑service training, assist with orientation programs and job skill training, and maintain professional competence.
Safety and SanitationMonitor the environment and nursing personnel’s practices to ensure compliance with safety, fire, and disaster protocols, infection control, and all departmental policies. Ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.
Other DutiesPerform additional duties as assigned.
Physical and Sensory RequirementsWork in a climate‑controlled and well‑lit environment, in an office and throughout the building daily. Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases; trained in handwashing, Universal Precautions, and provided personal protective equipment as needed. Must be able to walk, reach, climb, bend, lift, grasp, coordinate fine hand movements, push and pull, distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures, communicate with residents and staff, understand and follow training, instruct staff in service education, and remain calm under stress.
Qualifications- Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing with an active state license.
- CPR certification required.
- Experience as a Charge Nurse or supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex specialized information related to long‑term care rules and regulations.
- Ability to perform continuing education hours as required by the state.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships, coordinate plans, distribute information, and develop a mutual knowledge base for effective implementation of state and federal rules and regulations.
- Capability to relate positively to residents, families, and regulators, and maintain regular attendance.
- Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
