is looking for a full-time Charge Nurse, PreOP PACU to join our team in Mesquite, TX
!

Current, active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the State of Texas required.

Summary

The Charge Nurse is responsible for the coordination and supervision of nursing and patient care assistants, including work schedules, daily staffing coordination, and daily patient care activities to assure efficient and safe delivery of care. The Charge Registered Nurse provides professional nursing care for the patient during the pre-operative course, and plans, implements, and evaluates patient care.

Essential Functions

Charge Nurse
  • Make decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicate appropriate information to other team members.
  • Supervise the day-to-day Pre-Op/PACU, troubleshooting problem areas within the daily functions of patient care under the direction of the ASC Manager.
  • Assist the ASC Manager in providing directions to staff to facilitate daily patient flow, communication, and problem resolution with staff and physicians.
  • Ensure staff compliance with surgery center policies and procedures and maintain nursing standards.
  • Provide leadership and support in developing and maintaining effective relationships with the center staff.
  • Hold individual employees accountable for assigned responsibilities, individual goals, and performance expectations.
  • Mentor and train new staff and provide support and guidance to all staff members.
  • Act as resource; give advice and instructions to employees; coach staff on assigned tasks; facilitate problem/issue resolution.
  • Act as expert/super user for equipment, technical problems, and for advanced or difficult procedures.
  • Monitor daily work assignments.
  • Provide timely input/feedback to management relative to employee performance and training needs.
  • Perform other related tasks as needed.
Pre-Op/PACU Nurse
  • Prepare for patient arrivals by ensuring necessary supplies and equipment are available.
  • Review patient charts and health histories to confirm completion of pre-operative evaluations and signed consent forms.
  • Admit and prepare patients for surgery, providing clear information to patients and caregivers to ensure understanding and comfort.
  • Conduct nursing assessments, initiate IVs, and administer prescribed medications.
  • Communicate with the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care.
  • Receive post-surgical patients in the recovery room, assess their condition, and continuously monitor their recovery progress.
  • Document patient status and care provided.
  • Provide comprehensive discharge instructions to patients and caregivers, verifying their understanding.
  • Document supply usage and charges during pre-op and recovery phases.
  • Conduct follow-up patient assessments via phone the day after surgery.
  • Stay prepared for emergencies by maintaining knowledge of procedures, emergency call systems, and the location of supplies and equipment.
  • Sanitize gurneys and recliners between patients with germicidal solutions; remake beds as needed.
  • Perform narcotic counts at the beginning and end of each surgical day.
  • Conduct daily crash cart checks.
  • Deliver patient education throughout all phases of care.
  • Ensure adequate stock and functionality of equipment in the Pre-Op and PACU areas.
  • Assist with inventory control by accurately tracking supplies and usage.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently, demonstrating sound judgment and reliability.
  • Ability to collaborate in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a proactive and cooperative approach.
  • Strong knowledge of safety practices and procedures to ensure compliance and patient well-being.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills to effectively manage teams and collaborate across departments.
  • Ability to maintain sound judgment, attention to detail, and efficiency under pressure during demanding shifts.
  • Skilled in providing leadership, training, and support to nursing staff and related patient care personnel.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems for efficient documentation and workflow management.
  • Strong initiative to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve conflicts efficiently.
  • Exceptional ability to multitask, prioritize tasks based on urgency, and ensure meticulous attention to detail.
  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a keen ability to convey information effectively and make informed decisions.
Education and Experience
  • Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Registered Nurse in the State of Texas
  • Three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience
  • One (1) year of nursing leadership experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification or must be obtained within sixty (60) days of hire
