Quality Engineer

Responsible for supervising the Quality function at the plant level and ensuring adherence to the corporate Quality Management System (QMS). This role champions quality initiatives, provides training, analyzes quality data, and collaborates with cross-functional teams to resolve issues and prevent recurrence. The position also supports continuous improvement efforts and represents the Quality Department in plant projects while promoting corporate priorities of Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost.

This position reports to the Corporate Quality Manager.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Studying and evaluating in-process parts and assemblies through the use of capability studies, appropriate in-process audits and statistical methods (when applicable) to ensure conformance to specifications.
• Managing and collaborating with internal and external customers in the review of the effectiveness of the quality system, material, and finished goods storage, and finished goods packaging systems.
• Managing the handling of material rejections, returned goods, and mistake proofing.
• Providing employee training regarding quality documentation (forms, work instructions, and standard procedures) and other quality functions.
• Directing the activities of the quality technician per corporate quality requirements and ensuring that departmental quality inspectors are competent in measuring parts and fulfilling their quality system responsibilities.
• Working with customers in response to quality escapes, completion of customer corrective actions, and 8D's.
• Ensuring the customer's required documents are returned according to the required timelines.
• Ensuring customer-required PPAPs, FAI and other new product approval requirements are completed on time and accurately.
• Providing support to the Sales department as required.
• Working with Morrison Products Supply Chain Manager(s) and with suppliers to ensure products and materials are supplied that meet specifications.
• Managing supplier quality as directed, including conducting supplier audits.
• Participating in planning and budgeting to support local quality objectives.
• Reviewing and initiating local quality forms and control plans and assisting with or arranging any required English Spanish translations.
• Advising when changes are necessary.
• Managing capability studies, the PPAP process, administration of gage calibration & evaluation, and Internal & External PPM reports.
• Conducting Quality audits of other MPI plants as directed.
• Assisting with local projects as needed, including participation in Kaizen events and project teams.
• Performing other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility:
Directly supervises the Quality Technician(s) at their home plant.

Travel:
Travel to other MPI facilities is required, including occasional international travel. Travel to customer and supplier sites as needed.

Confidentiality:
Includes access to manufacturing equipment and processes, product drawings, product costs, customer and supplier lists, and process data.

Education Required:

A bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline is preferred. A Six Sigma Black Belt is preferred. Fluency in English is required; fluency in Spanish is preferred.

Experience

Required:

5 years' experience developing and managing the Quality System in a manufacturing environment. Knowledge of corrective actions, returned goods management, PPAP, data analysis, mistake-proofing, problem-solving tools, and quality data collection systems.
