Founded in 1967, M/G Transport Services is a leading dry barge transportation and logistics company based in New Orleans, Louisiana, focused on a specific geography of the Jones Act. Carrying over 8 million tons of product a year, M/G boasts a unique business model that enables the company to provide better service at lower cost than competing barge lines.
The company is owned by Maritime Partners, a privately held maritime asset management and vessel leasing company based in Metairie, LA. M/G boasts a blue-chip customer base, including major oil refiners and dry bulk producers. M/G’s continued growth has created the need for an Accounting Administrator to provide support to the company’s Accounting and Finance teams.
Job DescriptionThe Accounting Administrator will provide essential support to the Accounting and Finance teams by handling day-to-day financial and administrative tasks. This role will be responsible for accurate and timely data entry into the company’s Business Operations Services System.
Compensation will be competitive, and the Accounting Administrator will be eligible for the company’s benefit programs, including health insurance and 401(k) program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Develop relationships with customers by drafting contracts and communicating past-due invoices and monthly billing rates.
- Maintain vendor and customer records.
- Prepare and process employee expenses reports.
- Provide general administrative support to the Controller and Accounting Supervisor as needed.
The Company is seeking an individual that has the requisite accounting and administrative expertise, but also, the entrepreneurial spirit and passion, which is very much part of the culture. The ideal candidate must be detail-oriented, organized, and enjoy working across departments.
The ideal candidate will also bring the following qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant Accounting and Office Administration experience.
- Software/SaaS experience a plus but not mandatory.
- Inland marine experience is a plus but not required.
- An undergraduate degree in accounting, economics, or a related field is required.
- Very comfortable maintaining Excel spreadsheets.
- Must have integrity, ethics, fortitude, and credibility, complimented by a bias for action and a strong sense of accountability.
- Strong skills in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office applications is required.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
