This program is designed to help students gain experience, build confidence, and develop skills they can use in future summers as paid counselors.

About the Role

Counselors in Training work with children ages 5–12 under the supervision of experienced camp staff. CITs support counselors and division leaders while learning how to safely and responsibly care for campers. This is a non-paid position, but CITs may earn service hours. Most importantly, this role provides hands‑on experience and prepares participants to return in future summers as paid counselors. At all times, CITs are expected to be positive role models, enthusiastic participants, and respectful team members.

You will report to your Summer Camp Division Leader and interact daily with campers, counselors, parents/caregivers, and St. Martin’s Episcopal School summer staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work closely with Division Leaders, Counselors, and fellow CITs to ensure campers are supervised at all times

  • Actively and enthusiastically participate in all camp activities

  • Assist with activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, sports, and outdoor play (All activities are supervised — this is a training role)

  • Help Division Leaders prepare activities for rainy days, schedule changes, and downtime

  • Assist with morning setup, including water coolers

  • Assist with lunch setup and cleanup

  • Support the daily care of campers under the direction of group leaders

  • Attend all required camp meetings and mandatory training sessions

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 14 years old

  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (Training sessions are provided prior to the start of camp)
