St. Martin’s Episcopal School is excited to recruit Junior Counselors to join our Summer Camp team.
This role is a great opportunity for teens who enjoy working with children, want hands‑on camp experience, and are interested in growing into future counselor or leadership roles.
Camp Dates & Commitment- Camp dates:
June 1 – July 24, 2026 - Minimum commitment:
At least one month during the camp session - Mandatory all‑staff training:
May 30, 2026, 9:00 am‑4:00 pm - Camp schedule:
Monday–Friday - Meals are provided at no cost
The Role
Junior Counselors work with children ages 5–12 and support Division Leaders and Counselors in creating a safe, engaging, and positive camp experience. First and foremost, Junior Counselors are responsible for the safety and well‑being of campers. Junior Counselors serve as positive role models, bring energy and enthusiasm to camp activities, and work collaboratively with the camp team. Junior Counselors are never alone with campers and always work under the supervision of adult counselors and division leadership.
You will report to the Summer Camp Director and interact daily with Division Leaders, Counselors, campers, parents/caregivers, and other St. Martin’s Episcopal School summer staff.
Key Responsibilities Camper Supervision & Care- Work with Group Leaders and Counselors to ensure campers are supervised at all times
- Support camper supervision during arrival, dismissal, lunchtime, and off‑campus field trips
- Model positive behavior and leadership for campers and peers
- Identify and report camper concerns or disciplinary issues promptly
- Assist with maintaining accurate daily attendance records
Support daily care of campers, including recognizing personal health needs
- Actively and enthusiastically participate in all camp activities
- Assist with specialist activities such as swimming, arts & crafts, sports, fitness, and outdoor play
- Help plan fun, safe, and age‑appropriate activities
- Be prepared with backup activities for rainy days, schedule changes, and downtime
- Follow all camp safety policies and procedures
- Help ensure program areas are free from hazards and debris
- Report safety concerns or facility issues to St. Martin’s staff immediately
- Maintain open communication with counselors and division leadership
- Attend all mandatory staff meetings and training sessions
- Seek and respond to feedback from campers, families, and staff
- Perform other duties as needed to support the overall camp program
- Must be 16 or 17 years old
- At least one year of experience working with children
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (Must be certified prior to the first day of camp)
