Sr. Mechanical Engineer (MEP – Design-Build)

Position SummaryWe are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical design effort on MEP design-build projects. This role is responsible for technical excellence, coordination, and leadership of the mechanical design team from concept through construction, working closely with project management and field leadership.
Responsibilities- Oversee the design of HVAC, plumbing & fire protection systems in commercial building.
- Perform load calculations, equipment selection, and system sizing for HVAC, plumbing, & Fire Protection systems.
- Write specifications for HVAC, plumbing, & Fire protections systems.
- Assign tasks, review work, and mentor junior engineers and designers
- Serve as the primary mechanical point of contact for internal teams, clients, and external partners
- Coordinate mechanical designs with electrical, plumbing, fire protection, architectural, and structural disciplines
- Support estimating, budgeting, and value-engineering efforts in a design-build environment
- Ensure designs are code-compliant, energy-efficient, and constructible
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and project planning sessions
- Review and respond to submittals, RFIs, and construction issues
- Support commissioning and project closeout activities as needed
- Help guide engineering department in meet their future departmental goals.
- Help implement Trimble’s Sysque & Smart Tools product to make LOD 400 models.
- Help implement Trimble’s Connect2
Fab product to create advanced work-packages that can be status tracked by field team outside of revit. - Help implement Trimble’s Project Sight & Connect software to assist field team with access to drawings & models.
- Help create workflows in revit to accomplish the following:
- Perform HVAC Load Calculations in Revit environment
- Create rule based workflows to automatically size pipe and ductwork.
- Automatic scheduling & product counts in revit environment.
- 4D Modeling using Trimble Connect & Microsoft Planner
- 5D Modeling using Trimble Connect – Microsoft Planner – Supplier Exchange
- Develop Standard Operating Procedures for all processes for engineering & fabrication workflows which include:
- Submittal Review Process
- Engineering Fee process
- Job Set-up Process in Revit
- Update sheet naming guidelines
- Create layout drawing & point file guidelines
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience in MEP mechanical design (design-build experience strongly preferred)
- Proven experience leading or mentoring engineering and design teams
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, building codes, and industry standards (ASHRAE, IMC, IPC, local codes)
- Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks (BIM coordination experience preferred)
- Excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or EIT certification
- Experience with commercial, industrial, healthcare, or mission-critical facilities
- Experience working closely with construction teams and field personnel
- Familiarity with fast-track and design-assist project delivery
