Responsibilities:
- Direct core accounting activities across the organization, including general ledger management, accounts payable, payroll, fixed assets, cash activity, grant transactions, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close cycle to ensure financial statements and supporting schedules are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Review accounting entries, accruals, reconciliations, and analytical work to maintain high standards of reporting quality and financial integrity.
- Create, refine, and enforce accounting procedures and internal control practices that align with nonprofit healthcare and regulatory expectations.
- Evaluate financial performance, investigate variances and trends, and present meaningful recommendations to leadership for operational and strategic decision-making.
- Oversee grant-related accounting, including restricted funding, revenue recognition, reporting obligations, cost allocations, and adherence to grant terms and Uniform Guidance requirements.
- Supervise healthcare revenue accounting activities involving receivables, contractual adjustments, reserves, reimbursement settlements, and third-party payer programs such as Medicare and Medicaid.
- Coordinate external audits, regulatory reviews, and required filings, while tracking findings and helping ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
- Lead cash management efforts by monitoring liquidity, maintaining banking controls, preparing forecasts, and supporting treasury planning and debt-related compliance.
- Mentor and develop accounting staff, build strong partnerships across departments, and contribute to finance-driven improvement initiatives and organizational projects. Requirements - 10+ years of progressive accounting or controllership experience, including leadership responsibility for complex financial operations.
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, internal controls, and generally accepted accounting practices.
- Experience supporting nonprofit organizations, with a solid understanding of grant accounting, restricted funds, and compliance requirements.
- Familiarity with healthcare finance concepts, including patient revenue, reimbursement activity, receivables, reserves, and payer-related accounting.
- Proven ability to manage audits, regulatory filings, and financial documentation with a high degree of accuracy and organization.
- Demonstrated success leading teams, developing staff, and working effectively with executives, board-level stakeholders, and cross-functional partners.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and process improvement skills, with the ability to identify risks and enhance operational efficiency.
