Lower School Choral/Music Teacher

Salary Range: $60,253 - $113,226

To provide direct instruction to students in Music to deliver Methuen Public Schools high expectations for achievement, equal access to high levels of instruction, academic proficiency for all students, and closing the achievement gap among subgroups within the schools.

Methuen Public Schools enrolls approximately 7,000 students in five schools: four PK-8 schools (Comprehensive Grammar School, Marsh Grammar School, Tenney Grammar School, Timony Grammar School) and one comprehensive high school (Methuen High School). Valid Massachusetts Teaching license in Music K‑8. Additional content area license encouraged.

At least a Bachelor’s Degree in the area of major study. Master’s degree preferred.

Bilingual preferred. Primary languages spoken in the community are English, Spanish, Arabic, and French.

• Communicate clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
• Use evidence‑based research practices and data to guide increasing student achievement using proactive and solution‑focused approaches.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and the community.
• Work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and Methuen School policies (unless conflicting with the Methuen Educators Association contract).
• Work with students of diverse backgrounds and needs in an equitable and inclusive manner.
• Maintain appropriate confidential records.
• React professionally and objectively to unpredictable situations (e.g., environmental changes, behavior/aggression, seizure activity).
• Operate and/or acquire skills to operate a computer and related software, including Google and instructional technology.
• Collaborate, teach, coach, and lead to support student programming and teamwork.
• Organize to balance demands of a high‑demand position.
• Apply knowledge of specialized content area and related laws and procedures.
• Plan and implement lessons based on district and school objectives and the needs and abilities of assigned students.

• Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
• Create a classroom environment that is safe, conducive to learning, and appropriate to students’ maturity and interests.
• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, communicating these objectives to students.
• Employ best instructional methods (e.g., Universal Design for Learning) and materials that are appropriate for meeting stated objectives.
• Communicate with colleagues, students, and parents on a regular basis.
• Adhere to policies governing student life and conduct; develop reasonable classroom rules and procedures to maintain order.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for teacher aides and/or volunteers.
• Attend staff meetings and serve on staff or school committees.
• Participate in staff development programs.

K‑12 Supervisor of Fine Arts and Building Principal. The performance will be evaluated per the Methuen Education Association (Unit A) Contract.

Covered under Methuen Education Association (Unit A) Contract. The District reserves the right to transfer personnel among buildings as needed, provided it does not conflict with the contract.
