This position is eligible for a $2500 Sign-On Bonus.
St. Ann’s Home & School, in Methuen, MA, is a leader in special education and residential programming, offering private day programs, child and adolescent residential services, along with a broad range of outpatient services.
We are currently seeking a STEM Instructor.
The STEM Instructor should possess a bachelor’s degree, and at least 2 years’ experience with educational technology. The STEM Instructor should possess a proficient level of technology and 21st century learning understanding and application, a deep knowledge of content standards, effective strategies and effective assessment. The STEM Instructor should possess strong knowledge of school based applications such as Google Apps for Education skills (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, etc.),
experience (or familiarity) with tools such as, but not limited to: 3D printing, Arduino, Makey-Makey, Codecademy, Sphero, Tynker, Bee Bot, highly effective communication, listening, collaboration and interpersonal skills as well as effective written, verbal and technology-based communication skills. The STEM Instructor should also possess basic technical knowledge to aid in routine maintenance and minor repair of equipment.
A Massachusetts License in Digital Literacy / Computer Science, 5-12, Instructional Technology Specialist-All Levels, or at a minimum have a Massachusetts license in a related field is preferred.
The duties and responsibilities of the STEM Instructor involve instruction directly related to STEM and computer science in our school program. The STEM Instructor is responsible for implementing the curriculum in weekly instructional classes for all students enrolled in St. Ann’s School. Instruction must be appropriate to age differences ranging from 5-16 years, and grade level differentiation appropriate for the special needs population.
The STEM instructor is supervised by the Head of School.
- Demonstrate the ability to model, deliver, and craft rich student-centered learning experiences around Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
- Demonstrate the ability to create and implement strategies for weaving STEM experiences into multi-disciplinary curricula from grades K through 11.
- Work in partnership with teachers and staff, modeling consistent effective teaching with technology, engagement, lesson plan design, use of technology, STEM and online tools.
- Demonstrate fundamental knowledge of the connection between technology, computer science, and other fields of study.
- Understand and be able to design, develop, assess, and manage STEM learning experiences.
- Identify and apply educational and technology-related research, the psychology of learning, and instructional design principles in guiding use of technology in education.
- Identify resources, plan, and design staff development activities to support professional growth in learning technologies.
- Work with the Curriculum Specialist and Director of Education to coordinate synchronous and asynchronous remote instruction as needed.
- Participate in professional development experiences that allow the STEM Instructor to observe, evaluate, and apply the use of technology to support instruction.
The STEM Instructor should be able to sit for long periods of time, write extensively, talk for long periods of time, and be able to communicate with other agency personnel, LEA representatives, families and the children. The STEM Instructor should be able to lift and carry up to 20 pounds, climb stairs, work on a computer for long periods of time, react quickly and physically restrain children in an emergency to ensure everyone’s safety is maintained.
Staff are trained in current best practice techniques to safely respond to occasional aggressive, self-injurious or unsafe behaviors.
