The Certified Peer Specialist is an essential member of the treatment team and actively participates in staff meetings and discussions related to the individual care of the people we serve. The Certified Peer Specialist provides valuable peer support services that empower individuals in their recovery from behavioral health challenges. Peer support services are guided by each person’s individualized treatment plan, ensuring that all support aligns with their goals, needs, and recovery journey.
This role plays a key part in fostering hope, modeling recovery, and helping individuals build the skills and confidence needed to thrive.
- Develop rapport with clients.
- Identify and develop treatment plans with clients on caseload.
- Aid with Open Access and Crisis processes.
- Provide guidance and skills for those in recovery.
- Aid with services and access to services in client’s community.
- Work with an integrated team to help meet all of client’s mental health and physical needs.
- Documentation of encounters with clients.
- Report crisis situations to crisis team and Director of Behavioral Health.
- Meet with clients in the community, homes, and office settings.
- Transport clients to services and other places to aid with goals.
- Aid with conflict resolution and problem‑solving skills.
- Utilization of personal experience to help others in recovery.
- Encourage and inspire motivation for change with clients.
- Highly flexible and creative person who can work with a variety of clientele.
- Willing to work in a structured environment with a varied caseload of persons with mental illness.
- Strong interpersonal and crisis intervention skills required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required.
- Ability to organize and maintain written documentation according to agency requirements and in a timely fashion.
- General computer skills and the ability to use an electronic health record to document services.
- Ability to sit for extended periods of time and occasional lifting up to 20 lbs.
- High school diploma required.
- A credential from the Missouri Credentialing Board of Certified Peer Specialist.
- Must have a minimum of one year of direct mental health experience either in an inpatient or an outpatient setting. Familiarity with crisis intervention techniques is desirable but training is available.
