The City of Miami Beach’s Economic Development Department (EDD) is dedicated to fostering a robust economy that stimulates balanced growth by connecting business, community, people and jobs through business assistance and resources, corridor development and redevelopment, real estate, and creating a diverse economy for this dynamic and resilient community. The Redevelopment Specialist performs a variety of routine, specialized, and complex administrative work under the direction of the Director and/or Assistant Director.
The incumbent in the classification is expected to perform professional and technical work including but not limited to: research, analysis, preparation and review of documents and correspondence, public outreach, program and project coordination, independently gathering and analyzing data from various sources, and interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
- Assists in the coordination of economic development programs and projects
- Created and maintain tracking spreadsheets for assigned programs and projects
- Provides support and responses to requests from Director/Assistant Director
- Conducts research and analysis of economic development trends, relays findings, and provides recommendations
- Gathers data and conducts research on economic and market data, properties, zoning, and land use mattes
- Assists with advisory committee meeting scheduling, reports and minutes
- Communicates with City stakeholders, business owners, residents, staff, and elected officials
- Assists in the development and dissemination of marketing and public information collateral
- Assists in the preparation and submission of grant applications
- Assists in the preparation of letters, memorandums, reports, and agenda items
- Drafts correspondence and schedules/coordinates meetings
- Assists in the preparation/acquisition of documents required for requisitions, purchases orders, etc.
- Performs clerical functions, which include typing, electronic and hard copy filing and record maintenance, scanning, copying, printing, pick‑up and delivery of documents
- Gathers documents for public record requests
- Reviews documents and provide edits as directed
- Performs related work as required
- REQUIRED:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in Public/Business Administration, Architecture, Planning, Economics, Real Estate, Marketing and Communications, or related field;
Three (3) years full‑time verifiable experience in redevelopment or economic development activities, real estate development, City or municipal planning, marketing and communications, and/or data analysis;
Experience must include technical report writing and use of personal computers;
Additional experience may substitute for education on a year‑for‑year basis. - DESIRED:
Knowledge of spreadsheets, database management, word processing, and video conferencing;
Knowledge of grant research and writing;
Familiarity with Florida Statutes regulating redevelopment programs and tax increment financing.
- Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact.
- Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to, word processor, calculator, copier, and fax machine.
- No significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, sitting, standing, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press the general public and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity or sexual orientation.
- Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Performs related work as required.
- Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.
- Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City’s strategic plan.
